How to design GREAT looking web pages......a primer for non-professional web page designers |
Part 2: Reptition - repeat common elements from page to page |
| 2. Repetition |
Repeat elements of your design from page to page and on the same page, too! |
|
Look at this page. What elements on this page are repeated from the other pages, such as the "Home" and "Contrast" pages? What colors and layout parts repeat? What instantly happens when you repeat things like title fonts, layouts, colors, and navigation links is that the reader of the web page almost instantly begins to ignore the common repeating elements and focuses on what is different on the page he/she is currently viewing . What a powerful tool for directing viewers to what you want them to see! Finally, repeating elements and structures from page to page and within a page makes it easier for users to get around ("navigate") your site, making them highly productive when visiting your site - something else they will like! |
